History

From a humble beginning to the world leader in MSM, the story of Bergstrom Nutrition® starts with one man. Chemical engineer George Bergstrom III founded the business in 1988, with a two-man office and a small production facility. At the time, the only market for MSM was the equine industry.

By the mid-1990s, there was a growing realization that MSM could also have beneficial uses for people, and Bergstrom entered the human nutritional supplement market. In 1997, our branded product OptiMSM® came to market as an ultra-pure nutrient for human use.

In 1998, Bergstrom Nutrition began a complete MSM manufacturing process in our current facility in Vancouver, Washington, using processing equipment that produced a new proprietary form of MSM: the microprill. Its unique handling characteristics led to wide acceptance among dietary supplement manufacturers.

In August of 2000, Bergstrom Nutrition made significant plant improvements and passed a third-party cGMP audit to become the thirteenth company to achieve facility certification and only the second raw material supplier.

In 2003, George Bergstrom passed away. We are proud to honor our founder's entrepreneurial spirit as the company he created grows and diversifies into a global, vertically integrated leader in the nutrition ingredient industry.
